Atypical Works
David Randolph considers type casting in music. Here he plays examples of works by composers that run counter to our expectations in form and style. He draws from the following works:
The final two movements of the Second Cello Concerto by Victor Herbert. The cellist was Bernard Greenhouse and The American Recording Society Orchestra was conducted by Max Schoenherr. The recording was issued by the American Recording Society.
Piano Concerto by Rimsky-Korsakoff performed by Paul Badura-Skoda with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Henry Swoboda.
Opening movement of Symphony #4 in F Minor by Ralph Vaughan Williams performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by the composer for a Victor Recording.
Elegischer Gesang by Ludwig Beethoven performed by the Randolph Singers and the Keely Quartet under the direction of David Randolph. The recording was made for the Concert Hall Society.
