Concert and Recording Music

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

This episode is from the WNYC archives. It may contain language which is no longer politically or socially appropriate.

Speaker unidentified.

He gives his opinions on the differences between concert music and recorded music.

He notes the pressure of early recordings when they were made directly to master disc. Tape has relieved some of this pressure, though it can be difficult to combine separate performances. He discusses of instances of recordings "put together" with various performances, the speaker finds this very distressing, though he wonders if with advances in technology the true emotion can be maintained despite this "cold" editing process.
