The Story that Must be Told

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

A dramatic presentation of the facts about mental illness, starring Walter Abel as narrator, with Jink Falkenburg, Tex McCrary and three world-famous psychiatrists, Dr. William C. Menninger, Dr. John Rees and Dr. Brock Chisholm.

Panelists deliver speeches on the "crying need and woeful lack" of proper care and facilities for the mentally ill in America. Dr. Chisholm compares mental health issues to a new kind of ice age that has the potential to destroy the human race unless we adapt to stresses of the modern age.

Recorded at the Mental Health Dinner in New York on November 8, 1954.
