Ernest Chapel narrates another chapter in the Story of Empire County presented by the New York State Department of Health and produced by the State Radio Bureau.
"The Tiniest Spark" Dr. Bell and his wife take a drive through the country and stop by Elmhurst Community Hospital. In the waiting room, Mrs. Bell meets a man whose wife had given birth to a premature baby. He is nervous and smoking a cigarette. The doctor talks to him about the special care a premature baby requires. They are transporting the baby to another hospital for specialized care. They will also get aid from the state. About a month later, Mrs. Bell reads the public health nurse's report. Baby is well and ready to go home. Mrs. Bell says they probably feel like getting on their knees and saying "Thank you God for all the fine doctors and nurses and all the money and care that made it possible for that little bit of a thing to really start living."
