Stephane Wrembel at Symphony Space

May 15 & May 16 | 8:00 pm | $40+

The style of music known as “gypsy jazz” was created in the 1930s by the great Roma guitarist Django Reinhardt, with the violinist Stephane Grappelli. And though Django died in 1953, his musical legacy is as strong as ever, thanks to guitarists like Stephane Wrembel, the French guitarist who presents the annual concert series called Django A Go Go. Actually, Wrembel was a classically-trained pianist. He took up the guitar as a teenager so he could play Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin songs, but an encounter with Django’s music led him down this very different path. His Django A Go Go concerts are on May 15 and May 16 at Symphony Space.
