The Mexican singer and songwriter Julieta Venegas was born in California and grew up in Tijuana. She grew up bilingual, both in terms of the languages she speaks and the music she makes. The sounds of American pop and rock were formative influences, but over the years she’s grown closer to the regional Mexican styles that her parents used to listen to.
