Rakesh Chaurasia plays the bansuri, the traditional wood flute of Indian classical music. He comes from a family of musicians – his uncle Hariprasad Chaurasia was one of the most famous flute players in India in the 20th century, but Rakesh has been doing a lot of collaborations outside the world of Indian classical music. He’s played with the British electronic music producer Talvin Singh, and won a Grammy in 2024 for this collaboration with banjo player Bela Fleck, bassist Edgar Meyer, and tabla master Zakir Hussain. Rakesh and Zakir often played together, and tonight, on May 13, Rakesh joins Zakir Hussain’s protégé Salar Nader, at the New York Society for Ethical Culture.
