What Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's funeral tells us about the mood in Iran
A sea of mourners dressed in black flooded into Iran’s capital for a procession as part of the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
His flag-draped coffin was accompanied by those of several family members who were also killed in a Feb. 28 airstrike at the start of the war launched by Israel and the United States.
The coffin traveled through Tehran on a roughly 12-hour journey. On Tuesday, the late leader was honored in the city of Qom. Mourning ceremonies, marches, and demonstrations are being held across Iran.Â
What does this funeral tell us about the mood in Iran right now? And while negotiations between the U.S. and Iran are on hold for now, they are expected to pick up soon. What will negotiators focus on when they meet next?
